Welcome to our vacation photo album!

In May and June, 1999, Joan and Charlie traveled to the Veneto region of Italy. 

In the garden of the Villa Cipriani, Asolo, May 31, overlooking "our" villa.

They participated in a walking tour operated by Butterfield & Robinson, the sinfully luxurious Canadian touring company with whom they have previously done several biking trips (to Provence, the Dordogne, and Holland and Belgium).   Afterwards, they stayed on in Venice for three extra days.

This was their first walking tour, and Charlie's first time in Italy.

B&R tours are notable for the excellence of the deluxe and charming hotels, and for marvelous meals and wines.  This trip was no exception, and was also marked by exceptionally smooth logistical arrangements, involving not only the usual transfers of baggage transparent to participants, but also a complex of transfers between walking sites via minibus, taxis, barges, gondolas, and other boats.

Lucas and April seem to have had quite a few Bellinis!

All hail to our superbly competent guides, April Rinne and Lucas Pavan, who managed all this with grace and good cheer,  while nevertheless always being there for us on the trail (or off the trail, for when we didn't want to walk), at meals, in the van, wherever an encouraging and informative word was needed.
